MAKER MAKER: Mini Banners with Melissa Morris
We’re thrilled to kick off a new season of MAKER MAKER with our first-ever mini banner workshop!
Join Sackville artist Melissa Morris and learn to make a mini banner of your own design. Small but powerful, your banner could be motivational, nostalgic, a call to action, or purely visual. Bring your vision to life with a combination of embroidery and appliqué. Melissa will share tips, tricks and simple stitches to get you started. We’ll have piles of felt and a rainbow of thread plus printed fabrics and colourful fringe for you to work with.
Melissa Morris is an artist, freelance designer, and co-founder of custom design agency Bay Town Creative along with her partner Mitch Morris. Her handmade practice focuses on embroidery and crochet that draws on indie and pop culture, including film, television, and music. Often combining image and text, Melissa creates hand-stitched patches, re-fashioned clothing, wall works and more. She is a regular participant at independent craft markets in Sackville
MAKER MAKER is a monthly program of seriously small after-hours art workshops. Led by diverse Maker Mentors, each workshop introduces a pocket-sized art project that can be made in two hours or less. Designed for accomplished and aspiring makers alike, MAKER MAKER is for anyone interested in making small things by hand with friends and fellow makers. This informal workshop series explores how working small can be practical, portable and playful, economical, sharable and even wearable.
MAKER MAKER is free, all materials are provided, and no registration is required. This program is made possible thanks to funding from The Rotary Club of Sackville, the Municipality of Tantramar, the New Brunswick Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, and the generosity of Genie and Bruce Coates.
