The Owens Art Gallery is located on the campus of Mount Allison University. It is Canada’s oldest university art gallery and the custodian of an important collection of over 4,000 works spanning the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries. The Owens occupies its original building, which opened to the public in 1895, and was designed in the beaux-arts style by Edmund Burke, one of Canada’s most influential architects. We welcome visitors seven days a week, all year round. Admission to the Gallery and all its programs is free.
All parking on campus is free. See the Campus Map for visitor parking.
The Owens Reception Desk is staffed entirely by Mount Allison University students. Our student receptionists are knowledgeable about the Gallery and its programs, and they are always happy to offer information on exhibitions and other Owens events.
The Owens Art Gallery and Mount Allison University are located on the unceded, ancestral lands of the Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik Nations. While this area is known as Sackville, NB, it is part of the Siknikt District the greater territory of Mi’kma’ki. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship,” which the Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik first signed with the British Crown in 1725.
