Zine Library Highlight

Five small publications rest on a blue background.

Zine Library Highlight

The importance and influence of bodies of water flows throughout many of the works in the exhibition falling through our fingers.

Taking inspiration from the exhibition, we dove into our Teeny Tiny Zine Library to find a handful of other zines which highlight our varied relationships to water, be it the beach, rivers, a community pool, or harbours.

Daze Jefferies
2023

The text from Daze Jefferies’ work in the exhibition resurfacing you torn-together, 2023 also appears in her poetry chapbook WATER/WEPT. The publication playfully explores intergenerational touches and relations that wash through the lives of trans sex workers in Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland).

Micah Lexier and Shannon Gerard
2019

Micah Lexier and Shannon Gerard’s collaborative publication My Morning Swim documents Micah’s daily swim, which has marked the start of his weekdays for the past decade. Simple repetitive drawings capture his routine using the action of turning its blue pages to reflect the forward movement of swimming.

AnalogPEI
2022

Capturing moments of island life, joy, isolation, stillness and humour the compilation zine Surrounded by Water (organized by Analog PEI) brings together several views of island life through the lens of Analog photography processes. The Northumberland Strait and the Gulf of St. Lawrence which surround around Epekwitk (PEI), are central in each submission.

Jordan Beaulieu
2022

Diving even deeper into how locals relate to the highly mediated landscapes of PEI tourism, Modern Beaches by Jordan Beaulieu gathers traces of island life in the form of river trash, inconspicuous video uploads and abandoned blogs, obscured art histories, and menacing fibre crafts.

Betty Liang
2009

Waves roll across each page of Betty Liang’s negative capability, leaving space to get lost in the repetition of the swells with each turn of a page.

Read these zines, and spend more time with a selection from the Owens Teeny Tiny Zine Library. Currently on view in the lobby.
