Hibernate: Winter Zines

To celebrate the winter solstice, we’ve scoured the Teeny Tiny Zine Library to find zines that might help you discover joy in the coldest, darkest time of year. The crisp air of winter means snow is around the corner, and welcomes the season of warm drinks, outdoor activities, and the holidays, but this also means shorter days and more time spent inside.

Filled with activities for unexpected snow days, advice from the natural world, recipes to warm your soul, and meditations on rest and slowness, these zines offer comfort, inspiration, and small moments of brightness you can return to throughout the long winter season.

Sarah Evans

Unfold this zine to receive gentle advice from animals who hibernate through winter. As Katherine writes, “As humans, we may not be able to hibernate, but we can still try to eat well, sleep well, and take care of each other this winter, so we can once again thrive in spring.”

Little Neo
n.d.

Made during an unexpected snow day for the author, Little Neo offers practical advice to stretch and go outside and enjoy the fresh snow, or enjoy your day inside, moving your mind by drawing, journalling, connecting with a friend, being a friend to yourself, or even make a zine yourself!

Rebecca Minifie & Katie Kulla
2021

Part scavenger hunt, part meditation on the season, this zine invites you to slow down and look closely. Notice frost patterns, signs of underground life, and buds on bare branches as you dream by the fire.

Created by writer and illustrator Katie Kulla with artist and herbalist Rebecca Minifie, this zine is part of a series celebrating all the seasons.
