This poster coincided with the exhibition St. Art: The Visual Poetry of bp Nichol, shown at the Owens from 18 October to 17 November 2002.

A major retrospective of the work of internationally renowned Canadian poet Barrie Phillip Nichol (1944-1988). Born in Vancouver, Nichol was a highly regarded poet whose interest in the visuality of language resulted in a wide range of production including comic strips, letter drawings, alphabets, and concrete verse. Nichol was also well known and respected for this children’s books and scripts for television shows such as Fraggle Rock. The exhibition was comprised of examples from all stages of his career, including his collaboration with painter and printmaker Barbara Caruso. In addition to Nichol’s prints, paintings, and textural works held in the Nichol Collection at the Simon Fraser University Archives, St. Art will include manuscripts, first editions, chapbooks, bookworks and ephemera. Organized and circulated by the Confederation Centre Art Gallery and Museum, with the assistance of the Museums Assistance Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Canada Council for the Arts.
