This publication coincides with the exhibition Of Stillness and a Quiet Mind: The Work of Glenn Adams held at the Owens Art Gallery from 26 February to 2 April 2006 and curated by Fredette Frame.
Glenn Adams is an artist and an engineer. His university degrees are in Science and Engineering (B.Sc. 1949, M.Sc. 1950, Ph.D. 1953), all from McGill University. He worked as an aircraft engineer for Canadair Ltd. in Montreal, and began painting in 1958, at the age of 30. He took art classes in Montreal from Patrick Landsley, Guy Viau, Moe Reinblatt, and others. He attended an art workshop at Mount Allison University in 1960 given by Lawren P. Harris and Jacques de Tonnancour and in the same year he visited Alex Colville in his studio and began corresponding with him about his paintings. He then took a seven-month leave of absence from Canadair to spend the 1962-63 academic year at Mount Allison, taking selected second and third year Fine Arts courses from Harris, Colville, and Helen Dow. In September 1963, he was one of seven Canadian artists to exhibit work at the Banfer Gallery in New York City. Since then, he has developed a career as an artist living and working in Sackville, producing paintings, drawings and digital images remarkable for their precise and considered approach.
The publication includes an introduction by Gemey Kelly, an interview with the artist and an essay by Glenn Adams.
