About the Exhibition

This exhibition is devoted to exploring points of connection and divergence within the permanent collection. Located in Colville Gallery, this exhibition features a shifting selection of works curated on an informal basis by staff, student interns, faculty, and other community members. The works on display thus represent a range of interests, ideas, tangents, and other points of departure for conversations or private reflections.

We are proud to inaugurate this project with a selection of work curated by this year’s Bourne Summer Interns: Emma Neilson and Shivanya Ra. As part of their internship, Neilson and Ra devised a curatorial theme, selected works, and arranged them in the gallery space. Together, they chose to focus on the relationship between movement and stillness and the exhibition offers a wide-ranging perspective on this theme. Works on display include Alex Colville’s Seven Crows (1980), Roy Lichtenstein’s Explosion (1967), and Deborah Margo’s Register of Attendance (2005). A highlight of the exhibition is the recent acquisition of six drawing transfers from Rotchild Choisy’s ongoing series Strike a pose/pause or wear your emotions!, which explores the emotional aspect of performing identity through gesture, posture, dress, and camouflage.

Neilson and Ra’s internships are made possible thanks to a generous gift from Mount Allison alumni Ian and Heather Bourne (both Class of ’69).
