MAKER MAKER: Pocket Magic with Madeleine Leonne

Join us for our next MAKER MAKER workshop and discover “pocket magic” with Sackville artist, Madeleine Leonne. “Pocket magic” focusses on care; in the artist’s words, it “is the act of carrying small (pocket sized!) objects that are comforting & meaningful to you around in your pockets.”

At this workshop, you will learn to hand sew a small drawstring bag to hold your tiny “pocket magic” treasures. We’ll have stacks of fabric for you to choose from, plus beads and buttons to use as embellishments. Tuck your finished bag in your backpack or coat pocket to bring you comfort when you need it.

Madeleine Leonne (they/fae) is a chronically ill and disabled visual artist and amateur folk magic practitioner. They draw a lot of silly stories about love, magic, being queer, feeling anxious and sometimes feeling sad. Leonne shares their little gay home with their spouse and two cats, foraging plants, knitting socks, playing with flowers, and making art.

MAKER MAKER is a monthly program of seriously small after-hours art workshops. Led by diverse Maker Mentors, each workshop introduces a pocket-sized art project that can be made in two hours or less. Designed for accomplished and aspiring makers alike, MAKER MAKER is for anyone interested in making small things by hand with friends and fellow makers. This informal workshop series explores how working small can be practical, portable, and playful, economical, sharable, and even wearable.

A small green bag is tucked inside a pants' pocket. Pink dusk and stars float above the bag.Masks are required at the Owens and in all buildings at Mount Allison University.

MAKER MAKER is free and all materials are provided; no registration required.
